2017 Shriners Hospitals For Children Open – What to Watch FORE!

The Bullet Train it is!  Hideki Matsuyama entered the field in Shanghai hoping to be the first Asian-born player to win a PGA Tour event in China.  Matsuyama won going away.  A 7-stroke win against a strong field is quite a statement to be made.  Hideki was doing everything right and, when he can roll the putter, my what a good player he is.

Side note: Please go vote Tuesday.  Check your polling location early and do you civic duty on November 8th.

The Tournament

The boys are back in town.  The PGA Tour hosts its only event in Las Vegas this week.  This time of the season seems like a perfect fit for Vegas.  The weather in Nevada is ideal, players are taking it a little easier, and who doesn’t love a trip to Vegas?  Well, I’m told its great.  I’ve never been.

Anyway, if you’re a mid-20’s multi-millionaire, you’d probably find a good way to spend your down time in Vegas.  The movies make it look like fun.

TPC Summerlin is 7,223 yards and plays to a par 71.

Smylie Kaufman is the event’s defending champion.

Last Week: T-3      Season Stats: Winner – 0, Top 10 – 1, Top 25 – 0, Top-50 – 0, MC – 0

Ryan Moore

I’m starting the season strong with a Top Ten off the bat.  This makes me happy.  Ryan Moore has been playing well as of late.  The length of this course worries me a bit, but with it being a TPC, I’m with Moore.

Some Stuff to Look For

  • First Time Winners – According to PGATour.com, over 50% of the last 21 winners won their first event on tour in this event.  Kaufman carried that trend last year, who’s next?
  • Birdies– This course yields the 5th-most birdies on tour.  If you like watching shootouts, what this weekend.  The average winning score is 23.5 under.

Who is broadcasting the event this week?

Golf Channel.  Golf Channel will take us through January when the stronger fields begin to return.

What Bugged Me This Week?

Orange is the New Black

I finally got the opportunity to complete the latest season of Orange is the New Black.  The final episode left so much to be desired.

Do people still watch Orange is the New Black?  I’ve talked to a lot of people about the show and they always talk about how they have walked away.

The final episode could be a great reason why; that is, if they got that far.  The season is full of episodes most series use to bridge from one crescendo to the next.  The unfortunate part of this season is there’s never really a final episode.  Why does nothing happen in the season finale?!  Beside using a majority of the episode to show a back story, we see zero progression.  I’m not sure if they were breaking the fourth wall on with the last scene or not.  Last season, the villain got hit by a van.  This season?  Well one of the many villains just looks into the barrel of the gun.  Note to writers, you can’t have nothing happen then start in on a new season.  At least Walking Dead let people know someone died.

Good Song

Generally this song will keep me from hitting something/somebody due to the above.

‘Til next week.  Tee it high and keep it dry.
