Another Masters invite was pressed on Sunday as Hudson Swafford parlayed his good play into a win at the CareerBuilder Challenge. I noticed Swafford looked very familiar, but I couldn’t figure out why. If you ask my fiance, she’d tell you I think everyone looks familiar. There’s more too it though. Check this out:
Try telling me those two don’t look alike. Yes, both are Georgia Bulldogs, but only one is Hudson Swafford. The other? Harris English. I’m still not convinced they’re different people. It’s like the many faces of Mick Foley.
They’re the same people, but with different gimmicks. Good luck to Hudson with this iteration.
Many people consider the Farmer’s Insurance Open the first event of the season. The event is played on one of the most notable properties in the country in Torrey Pines. The tournament is televised on broadcast television for the first time of the season. The field is typically very strong. This year is no different. Dustin Johnson and Jason Day will be followed around by journeyman Tiger Woods for the first two rounds.
Woods has 8 wins at Torrey Pines and has earned over $8 million playing golf there. Now, this doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll be playing too strong there this week. Everyone hopes he will though.
At Torrey, the North Course got a $12 million face lift and will be giving players a few more challenges as they attempt to move up the leaderboard. Torrey’s South Course is where the field plays the final two rounds.
Since we’re no longer picking on the podcast, I asked the Sellstant crew if they thought Tiger or Day would play better through the first two rounds. The response was all Tiger.
Torrey Pines Golf Club (South Course) is 7,698 yards playing to a par 72.
Brandt Snedeker is the defending champion.
Last Week: T-58 Season Stats: Winner – 0, Top 10 – 1, Top 25 – 1, Top-50 – 2, MC – 1
Just as I finished last year, I’ll start again this new year. Dustin Johnson is my pick. I’m hoping the long lay-off hasn’t taken Johnson away from his game.
****Royal Rumble Pick****
The Royal Rumble is back this week. It’s like the PGA Championship of WWE Pay Per Views. After Goldberg beat Brock Lesnar, he came back saying he had a title run left in him. They’re going to milk him to Wrestlemania.
Some Stuff to Look For
- Tiger Woods– Obviously, everyone will watch this event for Tiger’s real return to golf. This is a lot different than playing Albany. The fairways are not as open. GCTigerTracker said Woods struggled somewhat. How will it look against more PGA Tour players.
- Day– Day is back for his second event of the season. After taking some time to nurse a back injury, Day will be looking to back up his #1 world ranking.
Who is broadcasting the event this week?
CBS has run out of football so Jim Nantz has been shipped back to the PGA Tour scene. Hello friends.
Will they use any pro tracer this week? Will they be able to show golf?
What Bugged Me This Week?
Short week for me to write. I got nothing.
Generally this song will keep me from hitting something/somebody due to the above.
‘Til next week. Tee it high and keep it dry.
